Forma | A Ministry of Lifelong Learning at Virginia Theological Seminary, celebrates, equips, supports, and connects leaders who form followers of Jesus.
We are the Network for Christian Formation for the Episcopal Church and beyond. We have members from across the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, and Europe. We work ecumenically with several denominations, including the Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Moravian, and Catholic communities.
OUR VISION
To be a courageous voice for Christian formation professionals, funding, and pedagogy within the Episcopal Church so that formation leaders are equipped to form and transform disciples of Jesus to live out their Baptismal covenant.
OUR CORE VALUES
- Formation: We equip the saints for ministry by forming Christian leaders who will shape the Church.
- Networking: We connect individuals and organizations for the sharing of work, wisdom, and community.
- Collaboration: We partner with formation leaders, our members, dioceses, and mission-aligned organizations to accomplish our mission.
- Advocacy: We actively work for the advancement of lifelong, holistic, Christian formation across the Episcopal Church and advocate for justice in the vocation of Lay professionals.
FORMA MEMBERS AND PARTNERS ARE
- members of the body of Christ accepting the call to ministry extended to us in our baptismal covenant,
- ministers of the church—both lay and ordained,
- paid and non-paid professionals—part-time and full-time—with responsibility for Christian formation across the lifespan,
- Episcopal educators who hold positions in local parishes, regional or diocesan offices, schools, seminaries, and other Christian institutions,
- consultants, camp and conference coordinators, publishers, advisers, and resource coordinators in the area of Christian formation,
- congregations, diocese, resource providers, along with other institutions that value formation ministry and partner with Forma in its mission,
