St. Mary the Virgin, an Episcopal parish in San Francisco with a long history of children’s formation, seeks a part-time Children & Family Minister to nurture the spiritual lives of children from infancy through 5th grade and to support parents and caregivers as primary faith-formers. This role reflects a shift from a Sunday School–only model toward a sustainable, relational, and theologically grounded approach to faith formation rooted in Episcopal tradition.
The minister will design and oversee children’s programming, recruit and support volunteers, build meaningful relationships with families, and help integrate children and families into the worship and intergenerational life of the parish. The role includes pastoral presence with families and close collaboration with clergy and staff. Ideal candidates bring a love of Jesus, experience with children and families, strong relational skills, and familiarity with (or openness to learning) Episcopal theology and practice.
